We clean our hands many times a day. But do sanitisers and soaps affect the rings we wear? Here is what to know about the three most common options.

1. Non-alcohol sanitising sprays
Many non-alcohol sprays contain chlorine-based ingredients. Over time, chlorine can weaken and discolor the metal setting of your diamond ring.
2. Alcohol-based sanitiser and gel
Alcohol will not harm your diamond. With frequent use, however, it can dull the bright finish of white gold, making your ring look less brilliant.

3. Soap and water
Washing with soap and water is the safest choice. It will not damage the metal or the diamond. Choose liquid soap where you can, because bar soap can leave a film on the diamond that dims its sparkle.
Our tip: When you can, take your rings off before using sanitiser, and clean them regularly at home or bring them to us for a professional clean.
